Restoration of Taj Mahal in progress

A major cleaning process of the Taj Mahal is currently in progress to remove stains from the white marble. To date the cleaning of two minarets has been completed while cleaning work on the other two minarets is in progress. As a result, the minarets have been covered with scaffolding. The cleaning at one of the outer arches has started and once the cleaning of all eight inner and outer arches is complete, the main dome will be cleaned (estimated start date April 2017). The total process is estimated to take over two years and be completed by 2018.  The monument remains open during the cleaning process.
